The miscellaneous writings of Mark Bridgeman

Why do people still place so much faith in God when it is clear that it is not interested in helping humanity? Why do they still believe God is a force for good?

Because God works through people and events. God’s works are expressed in actions that come about from the highest, most noble values that you hold dear. It’s not just you, it’s everyone, believer or not.

Those simple moments of kindness that come about seemingly randomly but just when you need it most. When someone that you don’t know does something inexplicably nice for you that really helps you there and then. When perfect strangers help you out of difficulty, that’s where you will find God.

God’s works are revealed through the collective kindness, goodwill and compassion of everyone, writ large in our actions. You don’t need to believe in God to be a part of God’s works, you just have to be good, which really means that you align your inner life with those things that you deem to be the most noble and virtuous from your own unique point of view, and you act upon the subtle encouragements that comes from being in alignment with your own personal conception of good and goodness.

That’s the voice of God and it’s a quiet voice, that’s easily drowned out by all of the other mental chatter that is going on. Thankfully though it’s always there, subtly guiding you to goodness in the background of your mind.

Part of spiritual progression is the learning of how to listen to the quiet voice. The quiet voice will never sanction harm or the oppression of others.

Collectively the quiet voice shapes people, nations and politics and ensures that tomorrow stands a chance of being better than today. Yes, change can be slow and evil people who cannot hear or choose to ignore the quiet voice will do evil things, yet despite this the world is steadily becoming a better place to live in.

There has never been a better time to be alive and that’s all because of spiritual progression, an ever increasing understanding of goodness and a willingness to act upon the gentle murmurings of the quiet voice. The quiet voice is the voice of God, speaking directly to you.
